It's February.
This blog is a ghost town...I've gotta do something about that.
The weather has kept me shoveling snow for most of January. Punxsutawney Phil is predicting an early spring...let's hope he's right.

The Perfect Public Restroom?
I used a public toilet last night.
I was at a restaurant and went in to wash my hands as I always do before I eat. This time, I actually had to use the facilities as well. Something about using a public restroom actually makes me hold it in longer than if I were at home. It's like my kryptonite, so you know 'I had to go!'. I hate the self flushing toilet, by the way. It always fakes me out...and then finally after I get it to flush with my crazy movements, it ends up flushing again. Total waste of water.
This made me think about what makes a great public restroom. It's not just important to be clean and free from clutter and odors, but as a great public restroom, it also has to be user friendly in a non germ transferring sort of way.
I really dislike the air hand driers, they dry my skin out something awful. I know that some are better than others when it comes to the environment and emissions and all that....but for me, good old paper towels work just fine. I personally like the motion-activated dispenser, but I'll take the tri-folded towel dispenser in a pinch. I abhor the crank dispenser. The crank ones with the lever is okay if I can use my covered elbow to advance the sheet, but the gear looking crank style that you can only get to advance with your fingers really bugs me. I would rather drip dry or wipe my hands on my clothes. Maybe I am giving too much information here, but if I can save a germ or two from becoming viral in your system then it's all worth it.
The most important, brilliant, and germ saving invention in bathroom design to me? A trash can next to the door. Don't laugh. This has become how I judge a great public restroom. If a restroom has paper towels and a trashcan next to the door, or an easy distance away... It gets my approval. It doesn't matter how clean the bathroom is in the long run, it's how clean you are when you leave it. If you don't have to touch anything with your bare hands while you are in the bathroom, and the things you do touch have a paper towel buffer that you can easily throw away, it's a win/win!
Trash cans next to the restroom door! Let's start a revolution!

Total Rant. Sorry.
So...
I have not been so chatty lately. I am ashamed, since I really want my blog to stay current which it totally has not been. It's been a really tough year for me. In fact, before a week ago, I was only making stuff when it was requested of me. I have been totally non-creative...only fulfilling special requests, which never ceased (thanks to my loyal customers!). A little over a week ago, I got into my studio once again and have produced two very new, very rivety pendants which I had an incredibly joyous time producing. I believe I am back in the saddle so to speak. Yay!
My mother, as most of you know, had a very massive stroke last May, and is my child now. I am responsible for her, and that has put a huge ugly damper in my creative life. I feel like my imagination and drive was just pulled out from under me when I was appointed her Health Care Proxy and her Durable Power of Attorney, and my job as both has been very 'hands-on' and frequent. I would not wish this on anyone...I'm just being truthful here.
Mom is not getting better, and it's become harder and harder to deal with it on my end...the sane end. In fact, she is getting progressively worse. She doesn't try. She is stagnant. She is happy in her stagnancy. But she remains bright in other ways. She loves to eat and she loves to gossip. She is only interested in everyone else's business, not her own, which is very difficult to understand if you are an outsider. I do not even have a good click with the social worker at the nursing home because I can't explain my mothers behavior in social worker terms. She is an enigma. She has always had social issues. She has always been more interested in knowing everybody else's business than dealing with her own. This practice is more apparent to me now than ever before. She is paralyzed on her entire right side, but the paralyzation is not what keeps her back. It is the fact that she does not pay attention at all to that side of her body, but she knows everything about everyone in the nursing home. It is frustrating. What makes a person remember something frivolous and not something important? Why does one woman know every little detail about her surroundings, but does not remember the right side of her OWN body?
Scott and I took her and her friend Marion out to the deck today to soak in some sun. It was pleasant. I have learned how to have a nice visit. I do not expect anything from her anymore. I consider her my child now. She is a brilliant toddler.
I am so happy to be back at the bench and making stuff. I just got another order today. I apologize once again for my absence, and I hope to never leave you for this long again. It's so hard to write when there is nothing positive to write about.
Sorry for the rant.

January First
I have become engulfed with this blog about Jani, a six year old girl, January First. Jani has been diagnosed with schizophrenia, after years of doctors, tests and prodding. Her parents are having a most difficult time with her healthcare since there is no place they have found yet that will take a child under 16 with her disorder. Jani is 6, and has a baby brother that Michael and Susan have to look out for, and Jani has extreme violent episodes.
This article published by the LA Times is basically a 5 page crib note into the life of Jani, Michael and Susan. It had me in tears at times, as did the blog.
If you have a moment, please read what you can. I hope that the more of us who are mentally healthy who learn about mental illness, the more research will be done for the mentally ill, if that makes sense.
Thanks for your attention.

Tagged...twice this time
Cristina and Lucie have both tagged me recently, so I thought I would do this.
The rules of tagging:
1. Link to tagger & display these rules on your blog.
2. Share 7 facts about yourself - some random, some weird.
3. Tag 7 people at the end of your post by including links to their blog.
4. Let them know they've been tagged by commenting on their blogs.
7 Random & Weird Facts About Nancy:
1. My dad wanted to name me Lucy Rosetta (after an aunt of my mothers), but my mom didn't. Guess who won?
2. I love avocados, but they give me a tummy ache so I avoid them.
3. I am an administrator on a jewelry artists forum.
4. I spend entirely too much time on the computer (see answer 3).
5. My car will be 10 years old in April and I still love it. I dread the day I have to search for a new one.
6. I'm finally accepting the fact that I can actually train a dog.
7. I have a secret crush on Alton Brown.
Since most of the blogs that I read on a regular basis have all recently been tagged, I think I'll spare them the extra tagging.

I'm a survivor!
The zombie survivor test. See how you do. Here's how I did...
Your result for Zombie, Zombie Food, or Zombie Survivor Test...
The Survivor
You are a warrior, a survivor.
You are well prepared and knowledgable and will no doubt live a long and happy zombie-free life. You might want to think about setting up a zombie survival group in your area, an anti-undead militia. But please, for everyone's sake keep it low-key. We don't want the government to think we are on to their scheme so take your band and keep moving.

Updated my website...sort of.
I know it's late, but I am on vacation!
I have just been trying to update my website nancyrosetta.com to make it look good. I don't think I accomplished this very well. There is still much work to be done. I have gotten to a point where I just have to step back and look and ponder and wait until tomorrow. The colors are still not right. Ghaaaaa!!!! But I am starting to get a "look".
I also updated this blog a little. I guess it is time to put Perry to rest. I loved him so much, he was the greatest, most well behaved dog (at the end), it did take a long time to get him to that point. Maybe there is hope for Rusty afterall.
Please take a look and give me some crappy feedback on my website update. Keep in mind that it is not finished. The colors need to be corrected a bit and some lines are wonky. But I am up for a beating, so have at me!

Chik'n rediscovered
I love these!
I had a boca spicy chik'n sandwich for dinner and I have to say that this box will be gone in no time. Really, these substitutes have come a long way. The last time I tried a soy based chicken substitute I was gnawing on cardboard for crying out loud!

It's really hard for me to eat right, having a meat and potatoes husband, but since he is working the night shift, I have been experimenting with my meals. I may just fool him with this product. I went to the grocery store tonight and bought a bunch of veggies for stir fry and picked up these patties as an afterthought. When I got home, it was too much bother to cook, and since I had hamburger buns and some lettuce, I just cooked up a chik'n pattie and loved it! I want another, too bad for me that it's too late to eat.
They have a nice spice, and really have a great texture. I think I'm hooked.

Tagged again
Kathy of wellerwishes tagged me for a funny, silly meme. Would have been funny if the book right next to me wasn't so depressing.
Here are the rules:
1. Pick up the nearest book.
2. Open to page 123.*
3. Find the fifth sentence.**
4. Post the next three sentences, so if my math is correct that’d be sentences six, seven and eight.
5. Tag five people and post a comment to the blogger who tagged you.
Here are my answers...
Sentence 6:
And he was diagnosed with a tumor in his head, oh, about eight, nine months ago.
Sentence 7:
It's not malignant, doesn't cause him pain, but it causes certain disabilities.
Sentence 8:
And I would give anything, anything for this dog to live another two or three months.
Book:
Rescuing Sprite: A Dog Lover's story of Joy and Anguish by Mark R. Levin.
Mom gave me this book, I have only just started it, and now I fear I will cry when I get into it. Ghaaaa!
Ok, this was a bit depressing, perhaps someone can lighten it up if I tag them!
I tag...Rabbit, Meilan, Noodles, and Jeri

Send a card to Max!
A friend of mine from Iowa posted this plea on a jewelry forum that we both frequent.
Please send Max a card!!!
Please send Max a card!!!
I'm posting this only because I do know the family and that this is for real. Got this note in our church bulletin on Sunday:Quote:Can you help? Max ___ is a 3rd grader at Underwood Elementary School. His mother, Bambi, drives a school bus. Some time back, he had leukemia. It was in remission, but now is back. The teachers at the school wish he could receive one million cards. That is the goal. Even if you don't know him or his family - send a card. Send it to:
Maxamillion
PO Box 129
Silver City, IA 51571
This is his aunt's address, she is collecting the cards.
I thought it would be neat for Max to receive cards from all across the country...heck the world, so I am recruiting my online friends. I will keep in touch with the teachers at the elementary school (this is my little town) and will remove the address when the goal has been reached.
Feel free to post on blogs, etc.,....1,000,000 cards is a lofty goal!!!!
Please send cards by June 1, 2008. Thanks, so much!

March already?
I can't believe it is March already.
I feel like this year is slipping away from me, where does the time go? Ok, that was a rhetorical question...disregard please.
Anyhooo, I have been making a lot of stuff, listing almost daily and getting a decent amount of sales from Etsy and a few from the gallery. I need to check on Cheeky Diva this week, it's been ages since I have been there to check my stuff. I don't want to do consignment anymore, I think that's why I've been dragging my feet.
I have actually been getting a few custom requests from Etsy, one last week, and four this weekend that I am working on right now (they are in the pickle pot) and will list them as soon as I finish them.
This afternoon, Scott and I went to our oldest nephew's birthday party. It's nice to chat with the inlaws for a few hours (there were kids everywhere), but I am glad I can come home to peace and quiet.
I thought I would share the cutest thing I saw there...little Nicky rockin' out playing GH3.

Leah is playing with him, standing behind him. Check out the giant TV in the kids basement playroom.

7 Random Facts
I have been tagged.
I have been tagged before (sorry Kathy) but for some reason or another never completed what was asked of me. I will try my hardest now.
Nancy a friend and an adventurous gal (Please click her name, you will be amazed with her adventures) tagged me to come up with 7 random facts about myself that people may not know, so I am giving this all my gusto.
Here goes...
1. I love to cook, but I hate to clean...a catch 22. Even worse, hubby doesn't like to clean much either, but he loves to eat. What can ya do?
2. I wear Scotts hand-me-downs. Well, this may be too much information, but it is only really sweatshirts and jeans, so it's not that bad.
3. I am a compulsive hand washer. I have to be clean, or I am not happy.
4. I collect tea pots. All different kinds.
5. Since my dishwasher broke, I really enjoy washing dishes by hand. This is absolutely something that I am not proud of, but I find it relaxing and I can think.
6. I wear my ipod when I work in my workshop (front livingroom). There are nights when I have my ipod on for hours at a time. And occasionally I sing to it, and have to yell "what?" when scott is laughing at me.
7. I am a closet rock star. I play guitar and sing, but only for myself.
I am supposed to tag seven people, geesh this is hard....well, first, the one who tagged me months ago Kathy, now the rest...Lynn Kim Marsha Lizzie Meilan Marika

The Adventures of Mr Wonky
Mr Wonky and I enjoyed a lovely drive into Boston yesterday.
It was just beautiful after the storm!
Mr Wonky likes the Jamaica Pond, he and Marge had a nice view as we drove by

Mr Wonky knows that the beauty of fresh snow doesn't last too long in these parts, so Mr Wonky was relishing in it

Traffic didn't even seem to upset Mr Wonky at all, he just marvelled at the white lace canopies as we moved about a foot at a time.

Mr Wonky was a happy whatchamacallit, I think he had fun even tho he couldn't tell me himself...I could just sense it.

The Bead Exchange lives on...
After a lull of more than 7 months, the box finally came to me today.
I quickly ripped the box open, scoured through the mess and took some out and put some in. It will be on its way to Pennsylvania tomorrow.
Miracles do happen!
Pennsylvania is the last trip for the box before it goes onto its journey home to Rowena in Vancouver.

Rowena
Something is on my mind.
Rowena is a great girl who used to post in a jewelry forum that I frequent.
She no longer does so. Why?
Well, she started a bead exchange over a year ago, that completely haulted last June. No one has seen or heard from her beads since June.
I don't blame her one bit for not ever visiting the forum again.
I feel doubly awful since I was the next on the list to receive them...I have not received them.
This was supposed to be a fun way to get rid of beads that you would never use and take some that you would. A give and take box of beads that was circling the globe. A brilliant idea, and it failed. Last June the beads arrived at its ultimate location. No more word, no more excitement. I am just so sorry that Rowena put a ton of beads up for slaughter and she has nothing to show for it.
I don't know why I am posting this here, I guess I want some sympathy for Rowena.
I started a thread in the forum for people to send me their beads to send to her, she deserves it, I have her address, and I am not likely to give it out.

Merry Christmas!
Even though I am sick and hacking up every disgusting color of mucus imaginable, I managed to have a sweet Christmas.
We went to Kathy and Matt's house for Christmas Eve.
They put out an Italian buffet feast consisting of various cured meats, cheeses, olives, squid, bread, anchovies, meatballs, sausages, gnocchi, and a host of other delicious condiments and lots of wine.
Christmas day (today) we went to Jeff and Denise's house for turkey, ham, and the regular accompaniments. This was nice, but there were so many kids around yelling and screaming and jumping off the walls, we had to cut it short. I really didn't feel very good today. This plague that I have has been lingering to the point where I don't know if I will ever be rid of it.
Scott and I both got some really great gifts. Yay for gifts.
I have to gush on just a few. I got a dapping block and die set, a punch set, and 1/8" letter stamps with numbers, a file set, and a hand metal punch tool with different size punches, a gift certificate to Lady Grace where they will measure me for a custom brazier (scary, but exciting), a crock pot and recipe book, two pairs of jammies, a sweet little green sequined zipper pouch, the latest Dresden Dolls cd, the first Gorillaz cd, a holder for my ipod, a really cool book on metalsmithing from Carles Codina, and a pair of the pinkest, fluffiest, coziest, cushiest, slipper socks I have ever had the pleasure of putting on my tired dogs.
Merry Christmas!!
